I am in too. As far as the cash is concerned is it $30-40 total? I'm really tight on cash so I wanted to make sure. DOes it matter that I have a lot more to lose than you all?

Tammy said...

Brit, it is 30-40 total! We know a lot are tight on cash right now.
We calculate amount by % lost of YOUR body weight each month. So, no it doesn't matter.
I have 18lbs to lose!

Supermom75 said...

Awesome. I am setting up my blog and will be ready to begin. I still have may more to lose than that. Take your 18 and add 32. :/

Ok I am going to say I am in. I need to loose my baby fat. Do I need to have a spereate blog from my family blog or can I use my family blog?

Karilynn said...

I SO want to be in. I do have a fear of getting "obsessive" and attempting to become skeletal JUST to win... BUT... I still wanna do it! I think the most important rule that MUST be stressed this time around is that you MUST blog weekly. Maybe we can alot 2 misses before you are no longer eligible to win the overall. And if you miss in any given month you are NOT eligible to win that month. What do you think? Also... maybe a rule about DIGITAL scales is appropriate!! I'm trying to recruit people now!!

Tammy said...

You can use your family blog if you want. I personally think it is better to make them seperate though.
Karilynn, I don't want this to be too much more difficult for people. I do think everyone should post weekly to be accountable. Maybe we can try to enforce it a bit more. I agree with digital scales, they are more accurate.

I'm in. I couldn't do the last one so I'm so excited! I definitely need the extra motivation!

I am so excited you are doing this again... and I don't have to wait until January :)
I completely lost all motivation this summer, and really want to get back on track.

I am in! I am going to try and find some ladies in my local area to join too.

Is there going to be any credit given for exercising? If someone is doing a crash diet, they might be losing weight but it won't be as healthy as someone who is exercising and converting fat into muscle and therefore looks better but isn't losing as much weight on the scale. I'd like to see a point tally and a weight submission. For instance, 1 point for exercising 30 minutes a day, maximum of 3 points a week (or whatever).

Jody said...

Ok Im in this time! I have had enough!
inspired and determined!

Tammy said...

Kirsten, What would the points give us?
Our rule in the past has been healthy eating and excersing. Can't do weightloss drugs etc...

I am IN! I am Karilynn's sis-in-law out in colorful colorado! I'm ready! Thanks for starting this! I just need to start my weight loss blog...

Elise said...

I just started my weight loss blog...how to we get linked up so I can find everyone else's and give you all the address to mine??? I'm so excited!

Karilynn said...

Credit for exercise is not necessary. I actually have been really frustrated by people who refuse to diet because they insist that they exercise ALL THE TIME!! But still complain that they are not losing weight. If this competition is about losing weight then the amount of exercise may be irrelevant! Weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise. It takes just as much discipline to diet as it does to exercise! AND crash dieting isn't something to worry about in a competition like this. People can't keep up a crash diet for 4 months. Even if someone crash diets to win one month, they will end up fighting just to keep that weight off the next month.

Kristi said...

Oh man!! I'm so proud of you guys for doing this again. Your killing me though! I got to my goal in our last competition and have "only" gained 3 pounds back. I don't like the direction that's going. But I'm not sure if I should do the competition to lose just 3 pounds. I certainly would never win. And people might think I'm crazy for competing. For me it's about getting back on track to eating healthier again and exercising more again. That's where I got off track this summer. So, not sure if I should do it or not. Totally LOVED it last time and it was the first thing that actually worked for me. Ok, gotta think about it.

Christen Farmer said...

okay, so we just have to have a blog site already set up? would i mail the money to someone or how does that work? i'm in arkansas so i'm a little ways away. i was referred by karilynn.

Karilynn said...

KRISTI!!! If you love the motivation join! I know I won't be winning any money this time around but I still LOVE the idea of having the support, competition, and encouragement of all these fantastic women. If nothing else.. it will keep me accountable during the holidays!! ;)

I want to do this again, too! Although DH keeps harping on me that I spend too much money. So would it be okay if I joined the list but wasn't eligable for the cash prize? If that's okay, I'm going to keep my blog private, so you'll have to send me your e-mail so I can add you to the list to see my blog.

I absolutely disagree that exercising is irrevelent, part of the reason people don't keep weight off is because they don't change their activity level and lifestyle, but I am not organizing this competition. I think it comes down to exercising and portion control and healthy eating. Many people lose "inches" and not weight from exercising. I don't think you should be able to win by exercising and eating like a pig and not gaining weight. I'd rather lose 10 lbs and firm up than lose 15 and still look flabby. :)

Shannon said...

Ok I am jumping on the bandwagon! Need to create a weight loss blog though. I am SO IN...done w/ not losing weight and trying. So time to count the calories and up the workout regime! Will post my blog here in a bit...

Tammy, I'm trying to send the money to the addy you indicated but it keeps saying:

"Email Address: Please enter a valid address in the format name@domain.com."

Karilynn said...

Kirsten.. I wasn't trying to say it was irrelevant altogether... I just have met many women who ask me repeatedly how I have lost weight. When I tell them that I have changed my diet dramatically and that I exercise 5-7 times a week I get this... "BUT I EXERCISE/GO TO THE GYM EVERYDAY!!!" response. The point is that Exercise WITHOUT diet IS irrelevant in weight loss so.... giving points to people who are willing to exercise but UNWILLING to change their diet seems kind of useless to me! I promise you I LOVE EXERCISE and I BUST MY ASS EVERYDAY!!! BUT... I KNOW that If I do not control my portion size/caloric intake etc... I will lose NOTHING! It's a whole package. Plus it gives us an out for excuses. "Well.. I didn't lose anything this week BUT... I EXERCISED!" Okay... good for you... and you ate whatever you wanted whenever you wanted? I have no idea why you aren't losing weight!

Wendy said...

I want to join!!!

Here's my blog. http://wendyweightobsession.blogspot.com/ I plan to obsess and check in daily. I may even journal my food/exercise on it.

Melissa said...

I agree with you Karilynn, it's all about changing BOTH. If you are not active, get active. If you eat like a pig, tone it down some. The two together make for great weight loss. Not just one or the other. You CAN lose weight by just not eating as much, but you wont maintain if you don't exercise (me as an example...I gained my 10 lbs + back from this last time because I didn't keep active).

Melissa said...

I also agree that it's not too much to ask for people to update ONE time a week. That's ONE time out of 7 days!! If you don't update, why is it fair to those who are?

Christen Farmer said...

Okay, I agree with the excercise AND diet... There have been so many times i have busted my butt exercising, but thought that i could rationalize my eating because i was working out religiously.. Did it get me anywhere???? NOOOO!! And also, i have dieted, and NOT exercised, and lost weight.. Yes, you have the flab from not exercising, but i do believe that they have to go hand in hand to be healthy and look your best...

Also, the Blog thing... I think it's a good idea to do it once a week, not only so that the group can keep up with you and encourage you, but also i know when i update my blog and go back and read what i have done it gives me motivation.. Once a week isn't really that hard..

Kirsten said...

I misunderstood you Karilynn! I agree that it is about both. :)

Now I just need to put down that pepsi AND get on my bike! LOL!
Tomorrow right?

Hi! I am Jewel and I am so excited to be IN!

I started Weight Watchers in July and have been going solo...blogging my efforts at http://fit-and-fabulous-jewel.blogspot.com/

Elise said...

Ok,I have to add my two cents!!! I agree that working out is great - but I don't think it needs to earn you 'points' or whatever with this competition. We are competing to lose POUNDS...and to see it on the scale and in our lifestyle. If we want to work out to help WIN then great! But I don't think it needs to be part of the competition.

Also. Blogging. It's not that hard. We will find the time to journal once a week on our blog if it is important to us. I really don't think someone should win a prize if they don't stick to the rules. A rule is a rule and that is that.

I just had to speak my peace. I know I'm a newbie...but I like it when I know rules will be enforced...it gives confidence to the participants.

Okay so I am Karilynn big sister and although I didn't have as much weight to lose I joined in a comp. I have always been somewhat active with four kids and working on my feet everyday so I figured if I threw in some exercise I might be able to lose that post pregnancy weight and still eat anything I wanted. Guess what happened. That post pregnancy weight stayed with me for 2 years. It was only through Aerobic exercise and dieting that I was able to lose those 20 extra pounds. I truely believe that one cannot thrive without the other. And everyday I see my sis, I can't believe how different she is. She is a beautiful and motivated person and if I must look up to someone, (cuz I pretty much look up to everyone) I couldn't pick a better gal to look up too. Good luck in this competition and I am really excited to read about your transformations!
